Self Help Groups in Vellore
Self-help group (SHG) is a village-based financial intermediary. There are about 15-20 local women in a SHG.These women save a part of their earnings and collect sufficient amount of capital. This common fund meets their emergency needs and also helps them to secure surety-free loans for themselves. They also meet together to take important decisions and resolve conflicts in an open forum. They train in a skill such as basket making, computers, tailoring etc. to earn their livelihood. SHG empowers these women and gives them confidence in their capabilities as an individual.
