Leather Industry in Vellore
There are around 1,226 leather units in Vellore district predominantly in Alangayam, Madhanur and Wallajah blocks.There are many leather manufacturing and leather based industries in and around Vellore. In fact, it contributes 37% of India's leather goods export to foreign lands. Infrastructural support and subsidies from the Tamil Nadu Government has given a boost to leather industry.
From leather shoes, belts, toys, bags, jackets, garments, gloves to manufacture and export of finished goods, from exhibitions to whole sale of these good quality finished products, it is leather all the way in Vellore, contributing a major share in the economy.
